Literature Museum in The Hague

In 1987, I asked the former leader of the Dutch zionist movement and much admired writer Abel Jacob Herzberg (1893-1989) if I could make his portrait. Even though the writer then already was an elderly man of 90 years old, he agreed to pose for me, albeit for short sessions. For this reason the portrait mainly came into being wth the help of photographs. I made it with river clay and then casted it in aluminium cement.
In 1995 the Dutch Literature Museum (Literatuur Museum) showed an interest in the portrait of Abel J. Herzberg. Ever since that time, it can be admired in the portrait gallery (‘Portrettengalerij’ ) at the 2nd floor of the museum.
